Cool Art Our
Favorites in Champaign-Urbana The slop barrel is a large bucket
in the studio into which we put clay trimmings and scraps. These scraps
are reworked back into usable clay to make the next batch of work.

We
had a wonderful group of girl scouts take a two week session in March.
They made bowls using the pinch
pot technique and vases using slab construction. Their pieces turned
out so nice we thought we'd post photos on our site. We are always open
to running special group classes, call
us if you are interested!

It
was a nice weekend at the Boneyard. The
sun came out & the weather warmed up for a few days. Michael worked
at the wheel for a while throwing some bowls
while the studio cat, Big Time, wandered around outside to check out
the Ivy.

We
were also happy to learn about our acceptance into Art
Fair on the Square in Madison, WI. Take a look at our events
page on this site to see our summer show schedule to date. We are
still in the process of hearing back from art fairs and will be adding
more events as we obtain letters of acceptance.

We
loaded the glaze kiln yesterday and started firing today. The "before"
photos are posted here and we'll post the "after" photos when
the kiln is unloaded this weekend. We have a kiln god in the shape of
a bird that is watching over the kiln load. You can see it in the photo
to the right.

Michael
was over at a local school today giving a pottery demo & he started
trimming the bowls he made this last weekend. We are busy working on
creating inventory for all of the art fairs that we will be doing this
summer!

Some
great pots came out of the glaze kiln this weekend. Have a look in the
photo to the right. We also sold some cache
pots, vases,
and other pieces at the Horticulture Club's Flower Show on campus this
weekend. Part of the proceeds from our pottery sales went to the Hort
Club.
Don't forget to stop by the studio this weekend for the Boneyard Arts Festival. We will be putting up a display of teapots by our artists just for the event. ![]()

The
weather in Champaign-Urbana is finally improving and so are our attitudes.
It's nice to see flowers blooming & to be outside in the sun. Michael
is continuing to make work for this art fair
season which will be very busy. His first show is in Elmhurst,
IL the weekend of May 3-4.
Michael & various Boneyard artists took work over to the GCAP Artists Against Aids show at the Orpheum downtown Champaign. The charity art sale opened Friday and continues through April 28th. We encourage you to check it out; there is always an interesting mix of art work for sale & GCAP is a worthy cause. RECYCLE! We would love to reuse your cardboard boxes, packing peanuts, and bubble wrap. Please only bring items in good shape as we use these for shipping and in-store wrapping. Bring it by during our open studio hours and we will be very grateful! |
